First Aid Instructor Course

Course Objectives

The course consists of various components, some of which are presented by the instructor candidates and others by the trainer.  

In addition to theoretical sessions, there are also practical sessions to assess competence in resuscitation, bandaging and scenario management skills. 

Topics covered during this course are:

  • DAN SEAP - Definition & Legal Aspects of First Aid - Victim Assessment - Anatomy & Physiology - Mini Lectures - Scenario Activities - Workplace First Aid  - Cross Infection - Theory Exam - Standards & Procedures - Satisfactory completion of both the theoretical and practical sections is required prior to receiving the DAN SEAP (South East Asia Pacific) First Aid Instructor qualification 

Course Fee $495 inclusive of certification fees.

Prerequisites 

  • 18 years of age or older. 
  • Have successfully completed the DAN course in Workplace First Aid Programme or equivalent (e.g. Red Cross Level 2 First Aid) 
  • Be a Scuba Instructor with an accredited agency or an Assistant Scuba Instructor (with certain agencies only) or hold an appropriate Accredited Trainer qualification

Required Materials 

  • DAN SEAP OHP Slide Set or
  • DAN SEAP 35mm Slide Set or CD

Level 1 Oxygen Instructor Course

 

Course Objectives

Oxygen administration is of prime importance for first aid in diving related activities. 

Some areas require, by legislation, that dive professionals are certified to administer oxygen first aid. This course will enable you to issue this certification.

 Topics covered during this course include the following:  

  • Anatomy and Physiology 
  • EAR
  • Benefits of Oxygen for divers
  • Handling and Storage of Oxygen
  • Oxygen Delivery Systems
  • DAN Oxygen Unit 
  • Cross Infection 
  • Legal Issues

Course Fee 
$395 inclusive of certification fees and materials.

Prerequisites 
18 years of age or older. 

  • Have successfully completed the DAN Oxygen Provider module 
  • Be a Scuba Instructor with an accredited agency or an Assistant Scuba Instructor (with certain agencies only) or hold an accredited First Aid Instructor with at least DM qualification

Level 2  Oxygen Instructor Course

Course Objectives

An advanced course of oxygen administration aimed at DAN Level 1 Oxygen Instructors to improve their medical knowledge and CPR skills.

Topics covered during this course include the following:

  • Advanced Anatomy and Physiology 
  • Casualty Assessment 
  • CPR
  • Cross Infection
  • Realities of First Aid in the Field

Course Fee

  • DAN Level 1 Oxygen Instructor

Advanced Oxygen First Aid Instructor Course  

Course Overview

   The DAN Advanced Oxygen First Aid Instructor program provides additional training for those individuals who have successfully completed the DAN Oxygen First Aid in Diving Accidents Instructor program. It is an extension program designed to train suitably qualified oxygen providers in the use of flow-restricted manually triggered oxygen-powered resuscitators and bag-valve masks.

Course Fee 

$395 inclusive of certification fees and materials.

Prerequisites 

18 years of age or older. 

Have successfully completed the DAN Oxygen First Aid Instructor course 

Be a Scuba Instructor with an accredited agency or an Assistant Scuba Instructor (with certain agencies only) or hold an accredited First Aid Instructor with at least DM qualification

Automated External Defibrillators (AED) Instructor Course 

Course Objectives
To provide participants with the training required to teach the use of AED's in emergency medical situations involving suspected cardiac arrest.

Topics covered during this course are:

  • Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) - causes, presentation and complications - Defibrillation - CPR-The "Chain of Survival", dealing with the unresponsive victim, expired air resuscitation (EAR) and CPR - Operation of AED's - Legal considerations

Course Fee

Prerequisites

  • 18 years of age or older 

  • Have successfully completed the DAN AED course or provide suitable evidence of a qualification of an equivalent level from a recognised First Aid training provider, relating to the use of Automated External Defibrillators

  • Be a Scuba Instructor with an accredited agency or an Assistant Scuba Instructor (with certain agencies only)

  • Hold an accredited First Aid Instructor qualification

DAN On-Site Neurological Assessment for Divers

 

 

The DAN On-Site Neurological Assessment for Divers course is an additional training programme for those individuals who have successfully completed the DAN Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries course within the past two years (24 months). It is designed to train DAN Oxygen Providers to perform a basic neurological assessment on a potentially injured diver.

The information gained during this assessment will:

  1. Provide a reliable system to judge the urgency of a medical emergency, depending on the symptoms reported to them by the divers on the scene.
  2. Demonstrate to an injured diver that there is a problem, if one exists, that may help convince the injured diver of the need for first aid treatment such as oxygen first aid, which may aid in the resolution of symptoms.

Knowledge Development (1 hour)

The Knowledge Development portion of this course is designed to provide information that will allow you to:

  • Refresh your knowledge of the warning signs of decompression illness;
  • Identify when it is appropriate to conduct an on-site neurological assessment; and
  • Conduct an on-site neurological assessment.

Skills Development (3 hours)

  • Review of Decompression Illness
  • The Purpose of an On-Site Neurological Assessment
  • The Five Areas Evaluated as Part of an On-Site Neurological Assessment, including:

Mental function

Cranial Nerves

Motor Function (Strength)

Sensory Function

Balance and Co-ordination

  • Taking a Dive History
  • How to perform an On-Site Neurological Assessment

Course Fee: $75.00 and includes both manual and Assessment Slate
